Our Nova Brown chickens are a proven, slower-growing breed raised on pasture with plenty of room to roam freely. These chickens are sourced from Nova Free Rangers, a hatchery in Rhodes Corner, Nova Scotia, run by Barbara and Brian Aaron. We fly in day-old chicks and raise them with the highest standards of care, allowing them to thrive on spacious, free-range pastures.
The Nova Brown is an ideal bird for free-range and organic production, producing tender, flavorful meat. With red feathers, yellow shanks, beak, and skin, they are as beautiful as they are tasty, reaching 5-6 pounds in 63 days.

Today, Herefords remain a symbol of reliability and excellence in beef production.
At Harley Farms, we raise Hereford cattle with sustainable farming methods that focus on ease of management and environmental harmony. These cattle excel in a variety of climates and conditions, making them a great fit for our farm.
Why Choose Herefords?

- Longevity and early maturity, performing well on forage-based diets
Belted Galloway Cattle: Hardy and Flavorful
The Belted Galloway, often known as the “Belted” breed for its distinctive white belt around the midsection, is one of the oldest and most resilient cattle breeds. Originally from Scotland, the breed is known for its ability to endure harsh climates. With two layers of hair providing natural insulation, Belted Galloways are perfectly suited for cold, windy environments.
This breed is exceptional for producing lean, flavorful beef that’s lower in saturated fat compared to other beef breeds. Studies have shown that Galloway beef contains a healthy omega-6 to omega-3 ratio of about 3:1, making it a heart-healthy choice.
Why Choose Belted Galloways?
- Lean, flavorful beef with low saturated fat
- Hardy and able to withstand extreme weather conditions
- Excellent omega 6:omega 3 ratio, making it heart-healthy
- Ideal for sustainable farming practices
Wiltshire Horned Sheep: Low-Maintenance and Flavorful
Wiltshire Horned sheep are a low-maintenance, hardy breed that thrives in Canadian winters. These hair sheep, unlike wool producers, do not require shearing, which eliminates the associated costs and maintenance. Their thick hair insulates them well, making them ideal for colder climates.
This ancient breed, once abundant in the UK, has re-emerged as a popular choice for low-input farming. The Wiltshire Horn is known for its flavorful meat, making it an excellent addition to any commercial flock or for small farm operations.
Why Choose Wiltshire Horns?
- No shearing required, reducing maintenance costs
- Hardy, with natural insulation for cold weather
- Flavorful, lean meat that’s perfect for crossbreeding
- Low-input farming that reduces care requirements
Tamworth Pigs: Hardy and Flavorful
Tamworth pigs are one of the oldest pig breeds and are particularly suited for pasture-raised farming. These pigs are known for their hardiness, excellent mothering ability, and natural resistance to disease. They are also well-adapted to cold climates, with red hair that helps protect them from sunburn.
Tamworth pigs thrive in forage-based farming systems, and their meat is known for being lean and flavorful. This breed is a great choice for anyone looking to raise pigs in a more natural, sustainable environment.
Why Choose Tamworth Pigs?
- Hardy, disease-resistant, and well-suited for harsh climates
- Excellent for forage-based and pasture-raised systems
- Lean, flavorful meat that’s naturally tender
- Good maternal instincts and healthy litter sizes (6-10 piglets)
