About Us | Harley Farms

At Harley Farms, our commitment to sustainable farming and ethical practices has deep roots. What started in East Kennett, England, has grown into a family-run farm that provides high-quality, ethically raised products. We believe in farming that works in harmony with nature, supports animal welfare, and contributes to a healthy food system for our community.

Our Family Story

Harley Farms began in East Kennett, England, where Roger and Julie, together with our children James and Emily, farmed over 4,500 acres. This land supported 2,500 breeding ewes and lambs, 1,000 head of fattening cattle, and outdoor farrow-to-finish hogs, alongside producing all our own winter forage supply. In 2000, the family made the decision to move to Canada and, in 2002, we purchased our current farm near Keene, Ontario. Since then, we have focused on developing sustainable farming practices that work with the Canadian climate while ensuring the environment, animal welfare, and the financial well-being of the farm are prioritized.

Our Mission

At Harley Farms, our mission is clear: to produce livestock and crops that align with the surrounding natural environment while placing a special emphasis on animal and bird welfare. Our farming practices aim to protect the land for future generations and deliver products you can trust. We raise all our animals humanely and sustainably, offering products that are fully traceable from farm to table.

Our Approach

Our approach to farming is built on the belief that animals should be raised as naturally and humanely as possible. We keep our animals in family groups to reduce stress and promote healthy, happy lives. Our pastures and forage crops are carefully managed to allow our animals to thrive, primarily subsisting on a diet of plants and crops they were naturally meant to consume. By minimizing the need for grain-based diets, we reduce our environmental impact and create a more sustainable system.

We also believe in giving our animals plenty of fresh air and space to roam, rather than confining them to tight quarters. For example, our Heritage Tamworth sows are free to roam the fields year-round, even in the harshest winters, as long as they have dry and warm shelter to retreat to when needed.

We breed livestock that is best suited to the local climate and environment, ensuring they thrive and grow naturally, contributing to the overall health and sustainability of our farm.
